  Larry Dunne, a 72-year-old Irish man, stabbed himself in the neck at his home on Carrickmount Drive, Rathfarnham, south Dublin, on 18 May 2020. A passer-by, Italian doctor Irina Berkun, found him lying in front of his house, and he refused medical assistance until gardaí with the Armed Support Unit disarmed him more than an hour later. Dunne, who had been diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2019 and had decided not to seek treatment, was taken to St James's Hospital and died the following day. The coroner recorded a verdict of death due to self-inflicted harm at an inquest in December 2021.
