On 23 June 2025, Kristaps Kambala, a 22-year-old American man of Henderson, Nevada, was stopped at Dublin Airport after travelling from Bangkok, and 19kg of cannabis worth an estimated €381,000 was found in his luggage. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having the drugs for sale or supply. Judge Orla Crowe sentenced him in March 2026, and reports dated 6 and 7 March 2026 give the sentence as three years and six months in one account and three and a half years backdated to when he went into custody in another.
