On 7 May 2022, Gardaí operating under Operation Tara intercepted a vehicle on the M1 in County Meath and searched properties in Newbridge, Kildare, seizing over €1.5 million in suspected cannabis and cocaine along with €39,750 in cash. Klevist Shehaj, a 24-year-old Albanian man, was arrested at the scene and charged with harbouring the drugs at properties in Newbridge. He appeared at Naas District Court on 9 May 2022, and the case was delayed on 12 May due to the absence of an Albanian translator. On 21 July 2022, Judge Michéle Finan sent him forward for trial and remanded him in custody until 28 July.
