• Man convicted of murder of girlfriend in Spanish hotel Murder

  Kirsty Ward, from Dublin, was strangled with the cord of a hair straightener during a holiday in Salou, Spain, after she tried to break up with her boyfriend. Her body was found at the four-star Hotel Magnolia in the Costa Dorada resort on 2 July 2023. Keith Byrne, 34, also from Dublin and a former soldier, had claimed she took her own life, but a jury found him guilty of murder in May 2025. He faces up to 30 years in prison, with sentencing expected the following month.
