A two-year-old girl, Aoife Haynes Murphy, was taken from Swinford Health Centre in County Mayo in contravention of a court order at around 10.10am on 12 October 2021 by her parents, Paul Murphy, 33, and Kimberly Haynes, 34. Gardaí issued a nationwide Child Rescue Ireland Alert and the child was found safe and well in Dublin, where both parents were arrested under Section 15 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. The father pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in November 2022, and the mother, a UK national, also pleaded guilty but failed to attend sentencing. Judge Martin Nolan adjourned sentencing until 8 March 2023 pending the outcome of a separate trial in Castlebar Circuit Court on charges including assault, burglary and criminal damage.
