• Sentencing adjourned for assault of two gardai in Tullamore Assault · Co. Offaly

On 6 October 2021, a 17-and-a-half-year-old man (reported as 17 or 18) assaulted Garda Finbarr Leahy and Garda Kieran Ryan outside Tullamore Courthouse, spitting and punching them, and threatened to kill Sgt Richard Thornton. He was pepper sprayed and brought to Tullamore Garda Station. He was arraigned at Tullamore court in early 2023, where Judge Andrew Cody described the behaviour as shocking and adjourned the case for a probation report. At a subsequent hearing, the defence said the report recommended a probation order, and sentencing was adjourned to 20 December for further evidence.
