  Asba Meats Ltd, a Shannon-based Halal meat plant operated by Tarequr Rahman Khan, was convicted at Ennis District Court in December 2024 of non-payment of €10,059 for cattle delivered by farmer Pat McGrath. The firm was fined €1,000 and ordered to pay €10,163 in court costs, and the farmer was fully paid the day before the hearing. The Agri-Food Regulator is also prosecuting the firm and Khan under unfair trading practices regulations over 24 summonses concerning €576,386 allegedly owed to twelve farmers. Khan appeared in court for the first time after being directed to attend, and the case was adjourned to 20 February for the judge to decide whether to transfer it to the circuit court.

  On 12 June 2024, Rodney Bonnes, a man with an address in Derry, allegedly headbutted Garda Kenneth Merritt and spat blood in his face at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, Co Donegal, after a fall-out with his then girlfriend. He was arrested that day and charged with multiple offences including assault causing harm to the Garda, assault on a woman, obstruction of Detective Garda Kieran Kelly, criminal damage and public intoxication. After several adjournments at Letterkenny District Court, he was returned for trial in September 2024 and pleaded guilty to two charges at Letterkenny Circuit Court in February 2025. In June 2025, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison and ordered to leave the jurisdiction for five years.
