Kieran James, an English man in his 30s, was assaulted at a mobile chip shop and on Main Street in Kenmare at around 3am on 28 December 2017 following a queue dispute, suffering a broken nose, chipped tooth and shoulder injury. Jackie Healy-Rae, Kevin Healy-Rae and Malachy Scannell were convicted at Kenmare District Court in 2019 by Judge David Waters of assault causing harm and common assault. Jackie Healy-Rae, originally sentenced to eight months suspended for one year, appealed, while Kevin Healy-Rae and Malachy Scannell withdrew their appeals.
