latest first- Gardaí apologise for barring public from Dungarvan threatening language hearing Threatening language · Co. Waterford
On 13 October 2021, Kieran Hartley was charged with threatening language against the family member of a local Garda during a row between neighbours near Kilmacthomas. The hearing at Dungarvan District Court saw the public and press barred from the chamber for around three hours, an error later attributed to Gardaí on duty. The defence questioned the authenticity of the Garda statements at the sitting. The case was struck out by Judge O'Shea in December 2021. In February 2022, Deputy Garda Commissioner Anne Marie McMahon formally apologised to the judge, acknowledging that justice was not administered in public.
