Gerard Kennelly, a 36-year-old father-of-one from north Kerry, was found with fatal stab injuries at Knockanure village, near Listowel, Co Kerry, in the early hours of 27 May 2024. man Kieran Brady, 35, of Upper Athea, Co Limerick, woman Abigail Lynch, 24, of Tarbert, Co Kerry, and man Kane Hornyak, 29, of Ballybunion, Co Kerry, were each charged with his murder. All three pleaded not guilty at arraignment at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Limerick on 3 June 2026. The trial was adjourned on 10 June 2026 after the judge found that evidential material had not been provided to all accused, with a pre-trial hearing set for 20 July 2026.

In the early hours of July 13, 2020, a man in Shanagolden was threatened in a Snapchat video, a petrol bomb was thrown, and a vehicle window was damaged. Kieran Brady, 33, of Upper Athea, Athea, was charged with arson, threat to kill, and criminal damage. On May 20, 2022, he appeared at Newcastle West Court where the DPP directed he be sent for trial on indictment. Judge Carol Anne Coolican refused bail, citing concern he was a flight risk.
