A 24-year-old female Defence Forces member was allegedly raped by a male colleague at a mandatory hotel quarantine facility in south Dublin city centre on 26 July 2021. Kielan Mooney, 30, of Derry, a fellow soldier based at Finner Camp in Donegal, was arrested by arrangement the following month. He was convicted at the Central Criminal Court in December 2024 of anal rape, oral rape and rape, with the jury failing to reach a verdict on three of six charges.
