latest first- Two German shepherds ordered destroyed after vicious dog attack in Swords Vicious dog attack (Control of Dogs Act) · Co. Dublin
Two unmuzzled and unleashed German shepherds belonging to Khalid Hamdy of Swords attacked neighbour Michael James O'Rourke's dogs for 20 to 30 seconds on 13 November 2022, causing no physical injuries to O'Rourke but ripping his jeans and a dog's harness. Hamdy told Dublin District Court the dogs helped him cope with PTSD from incarceration in Egypt in 2019 and claimed a break-in at his home caused them to escape. Fingal County Council brought the case under the Control of Dogs Act. Judge Anthony Halpin found the incident constituted a vicious attack and ordered both dogs destroyed with €4,000 in costs, placing a two-week stay on the destruction order and adjourning to 14 February.
