latest first- High Court quashes assault conviction from Strokestown house repossession Assault · Co. Roscommon
Kevin Taylor, a 65-year-old former garda from Longford, was convicted in August 2021 of assaulting security man Ian Gordon during the repossession of a house at Falsk, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, on 11 December 2018. The security man alleged Taylor grabbed his private parts, but CCTV footage did not show the act taking place. A Circuit Court appeal in March 2024 resulted in a two-month custodial sentence, after which Taylor took his case to the High Court. The High Court has now quashed the conviction, finding the prosecution failed to particularise the charge and the trial judge undermined cross-examination.
