latest first- Truck driver jailed for 21 months over Ballsbridge cyclist crash Dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm · Co. Dublin
Kevin McMenamin, a 42-year-old former Donegal senior GAA player (one report says 39), was driving a three-axle truck on 22 July 2021 when he broke a red light at the junction of Herbert Park Road and Morehampton Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, and turned left without indicating. The truck collided with a woman in her late sixties who was cycling along Herbert Park; she was trapped between the wheels, dragged two metres, and suffered a broken pelvis and severe leg trauma. McMenamin, who was disqualified from driving at the time, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm and was sentenced on 19 January 2024 to 21 months' imprisonment and a five-year driving ban. The Court of Appeal dismissed the DPP's application for review on grounds of undue leniency on 6 May 2025.
