  Diarmuid Phelan, 57, was charged with assaulting Kevin McHale causing him harm at Reedstown, Tacumshane, south Co Wexford on 26 August 2021. Phelan was never arrested but was not notified of the complaint until 15 December 2021, by which time potentially critical video evidence was no longer available. The case was adjourned several times before Judge William Aylmer at Wexford District Court struck out the charge on 30 June 2025, finding it was not possible for Phelan to have a fair trial. McHale has since brought a personal injuries action against Phelan in the High Court.

• Man returned for trial over murder of 83-year-old in Castlebar Murder · Co. Mayo

  John Brogan, 83, a retired farmer, was found dead in a house that was on fire at Pheasant Hill, Cloonkeen, Castlebar, Co Mayo, shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday 5 March 2023. Gardaí believe he was shot before the house was set on fire, and a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder. Kevin McHale, 63, of Annagh, Castlebar, was arrested at Castlebar Garda Station and charged on 7 March 2023 with Mr Brogan's murder and with arson, then remanded in custody by Castlebar District Court. On 20 September 2023 he was sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court.
