Kevin Maughan, a 48-year-old man of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to burgling Bar 37 on Dawson Street, Dublin city centre, on 28 April 2020, when he broke a window, cut his hands, and stole a cash register and alcohol. He was identified by DNA from blood left throughout the bar and was later spotted by gardaí carrying the stolen register near St Stephen's Green. On 25 February 2022, Judge Melanie Greally at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court sentenced him to three and a half years, suspending the final year on conditions including drug and alcohol intervention and community mental health treatment.
