• Limerick teenager charged with possession of machete and €9,100 cocaine Possession of an offensive weapon (machete); possession of cocaine for sale or supply; simple possession of cocaine · Co. Limerick

On Friday 2 August 2024, gardaí from Roxboro Road Garda Station stopped a car driven by 19-year-old Kevin Kiely of Barnakyle, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, in the Patrickswell area of Limerick City shortly after 8pm, and searched it. Gardaí reported finding cocaine (valued at €9,000 with analysis pending, though the charge cites €9,100), €1,000 in cash and a machete with an 18-inch blade. Kiely was arrested at 8.10pm, charged with three offences at 12.15am on Saturday 3 August, and granted bail with strict conditions at a special sitting of Ennis District Court that day, where he made no reply to the charges. He was remanded on bail to Limerick District Court on 13 September for DPP directions, which is the latest development.
