On 4 December 2023, shortly after midnight, gardaí were sent to a woman's home in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, and found her bleeding heavily from the back of her head. Kevin Bardon, 37 (one report says 38), who was formerly engaged to the woman, was charged with assault causing harm against her. The Irish Mirror reported on 27 March 2025 that Bardon had pleaded guilty, with sentencing adjourned to April 2025. Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court later imposed a three-year, six-month sentence with the final 12 months suspended, meaning two and a half years in custody. Sentencing was reported in January 2026, and the post-release terms require Bardon to follow Probation Service directions and attend a spousal risk programme.
