On the morning of 4 December 2016, a car driven by 22-year-old Eamon Dixon crossed the centre line at Kildangan, Military Road, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, and collided with a people carrier, killing Dixon and passengers Michael Tobin, 38, and Kenneth O'Sullivan, 39, all of whom were burnt beyond recognition and identified by DNA. Dixon was found to have a high level of alcohol in his system as well as traces of cocaine and other drugs. An inquest jury returned verdicts of accidental death for all three men. In January 2023, the High Court approved a €450,000 settlement in the Tobin family's damages claim, with liability assessed at 50/50.
