  Kelly Marie Lynch, a 23-year-old woman, was found dead in the Ulster Canal in Monaghan town on 17 March 2024, having been last seen leaving home on 13 March. Gardaí ruled her death an accident by drowning, but a privately commissioned forensic report found no pathological evidence of drowning and concluded her death was a homicide, noting 93 injuries on her body, some inflicted after death. A former detective has called for the case to be treated as a murder investigation, and the Katie Trust says the report raises significant concerns about the original investigation. Gardaí met the Lynch family about their concerns on 21 October 2024, and the family raised almost £20,000 for a legal and investigation fund.
