Kelli Kilpatrick, 34, a freelance travel agent, stole nearly €29,000 from 31 holiday makers in Dublin between April 2017 and August 2018. She offered discounted holidays to make friends, used deposits from some customers to complete others' bookings, and in some cases falsified receipts and confirmations. She contacted gardai to clear her conscience and co-operated fully with the investigation. She was charged with 54 counts of theft and pleaded guilty to eight sample counts at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. In April 2022, Judge Martin Nolan suspended a three-year prison term on condition that €25,000 be handed over and a further €3,000 be paid in compensation within a year.
