    David McCarthy, 30, a man, assaulted fellow inmate Keith Williams in a cell at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise on 13 October 2022. The victim required glue stitching to a cut on his head and physiotherapy to his back and shoulder. McCarthy pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and was sentenced on 20 May 2024 to three months in prison, starting from the date of the court hearing. He is serving a five-year sentence and is due for release on 23 September 2025.
