Garett Molloy, 28, a man from Lower Sheriff Street, Dublin, was fatally shot by a plain-clothed garda on 15 May 2009 during an attempted armed robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle outside a Centra store on Foxborough Road, Lucan. His accomplice Keith Murtagh was also wounded in the encounter, and the gang had been under surveillance for several months. The DPP directed no prosecutions from a Gsoc report in May 2013, Gareth Hutch was cleared of charges, and Derek Hutch received a 16-year prison sentence. At a preliminary inquest hearing in February 2023, Senior Coroner Myra Cullinane allowed the gardaí to give evidence anonymously behind a screen, and the hearing was adjourned to fix a date for a further update on document classification.
