  Kedagh Moore, a 16-year-old boy, was killed when struck by a vehicle while walking on the R403 in Blackwood near Robertstown, Co Kildare, at approximately 12:30am on 10 November 2024. Marin Silaghi, a 41-year-old Romanian man from Ballybrittas, Portlaoise, was arrested about three hours later at a checkpoint in Carbury and charged with failing to stop at the scene with intent to escape liability for a death and with driving a defective vehicle. Silaghi was refused bail at Athy District Court on 12 November 2024 and remanded in custody, with the case adjourned several times before trial. At Naas Circuit Criminal Court in June 2026, a jury found Silaghi guilty of failing to stop, failing to keep the vehicle at the scene, and failing to offer assistance. The case was adjourned for sentencing.
