  On 20 May 2020, gardaí stopped a car at Ballinlaw, Slieverue, Co Kilkenny as part of an organised crime investigation, and a semi-automatic pistol and 47 rounds of ammunition were recovered after a small black object was thrown from the rear seat. Chris Kelly, 32, and Kealan Madden, 34, both from Waterford, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm. Kelly was sentenced to six years' imprisonment with one year suspended and Madden to five years with 12 months suspended at Kilkenny Circuit Court in December 2021. The Court of Appeal quashed Kelly's sentence in February 2023 and re-sentenced him to five years with one year suspended.
