On 21 February 2004, an out-of-service bus driven by Kenneth Henvey mounted a footpath at Wellington Quay, Dublin, and crashed into people boarding a 66 bus to Maynooth, killing five people and injuring over a dozen others. The five who died were Kevin Garry, Kathleen Gilton, Margaret Traynor, Vasyl Tyminskyy, and Teresa Keatley. Henvey was charged with dangerous driving causing death and pleaded not guilty, with the defence arguing the bus was faulty and had experienced a power surge.
