On 10 May 2021, Karol Zawadski, a 36-year-old man from Carrick-on-Shannon, was detected driving at 125 kph in a 100 kph zone at Drumsna, Carrick-on-Shannon, and tested positive for cannabis on a roadside oral fluid sample and a blood specimen. He pleaded not guilty to drug driving at the district court, where a related speeding charge was struck out. In a contested hearing before Judge Sandra Murphy, the defence raised issues about the garda's opinion and a date error in the statement. On 4 October 2022, the judge convicted Zawadski, fined him €350 and imposed a one-year driving ban.
