Karl Humphries, a 38-year-old man from Bishopstown, Cork, was arrested at Ardnageehy East, Watergrasshill, Co Cork on 29 July 2012 after €58,000 worth of cannabis resin was found in a black bag hidden under an old tyre in a ditch. He fled to Australia before facing a charge under Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act for possession of cannabis resin for sale or supply. A jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court found him guilty by a majority of 10 to 2. Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin sentenced him to 10 years in prison, backdated to July 2021, with the final two years suspended on good-behaviour conditions.
