  Kadima Mbuye, a 53-year-old man of no fixed abode, entered a female patient's room at University Hospital Limerick at about 4am and masturbated in front of her while she was recovering from surgery. Gardaí were called on 31 March 2023 and arrested him, but could not detain him because the offence does not carry Garda powers of detention. After a Garda file was sent to the DPP, Mbuye was charged before Limerick District Court on 2 July 2023 and remanded in custody. A jury at Limerick Circuit Court found him guilty on 15 January 2024, and he was sentenced to 20 months, backdated to 2 July 2023, as reported on 24 January 2024.
