  • Gold reportedly stolen from National Party vault in Dublin Theft · Co. Dublin

Justin Barrett, leader of the National Party, complained to gardaí that a considerable quantity of gold, estimated at around €400,000, had been taken from the party's safe vault at a premises in Dublin 4 on a Tuesday before reports were published on 24 July 2023. The sources attribute the alleged theft to two party officers who had since been dismissed, but do not name them, and no arrest or charge has been reported. Gardaí confirmed they are making enquiries into an allegation of theft, but said they had not established that a crime had been committed or commenced a criminal investigation, while Barrett said a criminal investigation was underway. By 25 July 2023 gardaí had located the gold and were satisfied it was in a secure location, while they continued to establish who its legal owner is.
