Joyce Quinn, a 44-year-old woman, was murdered by Kenneth O'Reilly on the Curragh in County Kildare in January 1996 after she agreed to give him a lift on a rainy night. The reports say he raped her while she was dead or dying, but he was never charged with rape. He was arrested a week later and, after waiting 20 months, pleaded guilty to her murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment. In March 2023 the Parole Board of Ireland refused him parole, and he will be eligible to reapply in two years.
