Jostiel Dias Da Silva, a 31-year-old Brazilian man, obtained false identity documents so that he could work in Dublin. Gardaí identified him after a multi-agency search of an employer in June 2020, and a search of his home on 15 June 2020 found three false identification documents. He was charged with possession of a false instrument, using a false instrument to open a bank account in March 2021, and facilitating the obtaining of a false instrument in October 2020, and he pleaded guilty to possession on 15 June 2023. On 4 December 2024 at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court he received an 18-month sentence, suspended in full on strict conditions, after the judge set a headline sentence of two years.
