On 16 November 2022, a 43-year-old woman was out walking in a Dublin suburb near her home at about 9.30pm when Joshua Doolan, 19, grabbed her and pushed her off the public pathway into bushes and onto the ground. Gardaí identified him through CCTV from a Dublin Bus and through an optician who had prescribed glasses left at the scene. Doolan pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to aggravated sexual assault of the woman. On Friday, 3 May 2024, Mr Justice Tony Hunt sentenced him to seven years with the final 18 months suspended, with no contact with the victim and three years of Probation Services supervision after release.
