A prisoner used an improvised shiv to attack a fellow inmate in Portlaoise Prison at 2.30pm on December 7, 2023. The victim, Patrick Farrell, suffered superficial wounds to his ear, face, arm, upper jaw and upper back. Joshua Connolly, who had 46 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to assaulting Farrell with intent to cause bodily harm and to producing a man-made instrument contrary to the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act. At Tullamore District Court, Judge Andrew Cody sentenced Connolly to three months in prison, to begin when his current sentence expires.

A 29-year-old man, Joshua Connolly, was accused of assault and abusive and threatening behaviour at the Janet Dillon Pharmacy in Newbridge, County Kildare, on 23 November 2021. The case was detailed at Naas District Court on 13 July 2023, where gardaí requested an adjournment to allow the alleged injured party to attend. The defending barrister noted that none of the State's witnesses were present, and the injured party had never attended on any of the three previous occasions the case was called. Judge Desmond Zaidan struck out the case against Connolly without prejudice.
