  On 8 December 2024, an incident at Ballyfore and O'Connell Square in Edenderry, Offaly, led to charges against five men. Ciaran Mulligan, 24, Joseph Mulligan, 35, Ethan Kearon, 23 and Jordan Toland, 25, are accused of assaulting Gavin Young, 23, causing him harm, while the first three are also accused of violent disorder at O'Connell Square; Gavin Young is in turn accused of violent disorder and of assaulting Josh O'Neill. The case went through several adjournments at Tullamore District Court before the DPP directed trial by indictment and the men were sent to Tullamore Circuit Court in October 2025. In January 2026, Joseph Mulligan pleaded guilty to the violent disorder charge and was remanded on continuing bail for a sentencing hearing on 14 April.
