  • Josh Larkin, 20, granted bail over handgun brandished outside Ballymun Garda station Possession of a firearm · Co. Dublin

Josh Larkin, a 20-year-old man from Poppintree Crescent, Ballymun, was charged with possessing a black handgun and producing it in the course of a dispute at Gateway Crescent outside Ballymun Garda Station on 28 April 2026. During a Garda pursuit, the loaded handgun was thrown into bushes, where a six-year-old child found it and handed it to his 11-year-old brother, who accidentally discharged it into the air before a young male on an e-bike took the weapon away; the incident was connected to a local gang feud between two drugs gangs in Ballymun, and no injuries were reported, though one account says the six-year-old was treated for a shoulder injury from the recoil. Larkin was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 alongside a juvenile who was later released, and on 30 April 2026 Judge Brendan O'Reilly at Dublin District Court granted him bail over Garda opposition, setting conditions including a total of €6,500 in cash lodgements. He was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear at Cloverhill District Court on 7 May 2026 for DPP directions, while the handgun remains unaccounted for and is believed to have fallen into criminal hands.
