  In the early hours of 17 December 2020, a man in his early 20s was attacked by two men while walking at Sexton Street North, Thomondgate, Limerick, and his phone was taken. Joseph O'Loughlin, a 26-year-old man from Janesboro, was arrested shortly after and later identified himself on CCTV after initially giving a false name. He was prosecuted before Limerick Circuit Court, where he was described as a prolific recidivist with over 100 previous convictions. On 25 November 2021, Judge O'Donnell sentenced him to four years' imprisonment, or five years with 12 months suspended as noted in the sentencing summary.
