Joseph Farrell, a 26-year-old man, was sentenced at Longford Circuit Court on 7 February 2024 for dangerous driving causing death. He pleaded guilty to driving a Porsche 911 while drunk in the early hours of 18 December 2021 on the Cullyfad Road at Coolnahinch, Longford, where his passenger Brian McGinnity, a man in his 20s, was killed. Farrell had 166 mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, more than three times the legal limit, and lost control of the car on a left-turning bend. He was sentenced to 28 months in prison with the final 12 months suspended for two years and disqualified from driving for seven years.
