Joseph Campbell, 63, a man of Daingean, Co Offaly, was convicted by a jury of Section 4 rape of Devin O'Donnell, a man who was 11 at the time, at the victim's home in October 2017. Further charges of sexual assault from a December 2021 incident were taken into account at sentencing. O'Donnell, now 19, first complained to gardaí in 2023 at age 17, and Campbell was arrested and interviewed in March and October 2023, denying the allegation. Campbell was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on 6 October 2025 to 10 years' imprisonment with the final 18 months suspended, an effective term of eight and a half years, along with concurrent six-year terms for the sexual assault offences, a no-contact order, and 12 months' probation supervision.
