Jose Filho, a 29-year-old man, used a debit card without authorisation to make purchases in shops and businesses across Limerick city in September 2025, including seven transactions totalling €249.60 at Centra Monaleen, Newtown. The goods bought had a total value of €440.69. He pleaded guilty at Limerick District Court to 20 counts of theft, which are contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001, and the plea was reported in February 2026. The defence said he would need time to pay the money back, and Judge Patricia Harney remanded him on bail to pay compensation.
