latest first- Gardaí renew appeal in Tullamore murder investigation Murder · Co. Offaly
Fiona Pender, a 25-year-old Irish hairdresser and part-time model who was seven months pregnant, went missing from her flat on Church Street, Tullamore, Co Offaly, on 23 August 1996. John Thompson, a man then 24 who was in a relationship with Pender, was arrested in 1997 on suspicion of withholding information along with his three sisters and father, but all five were released without charge. The case was upgraded from a missing persons inquiry to a murder investigation in 2025, and searches at Graigue, Killeigh, Co Offaly and near Clonaslee, Co Laois, concluded in May 2025 without finding her remains. No person has been charged, and Fiona Pender's body has never been located. Gardaí renewed their appeal for information on the 30th anniversary of her disappearance in August 2026.
