On 5 June 2023, John Temple alleged that John Keenan, 59, punched him in the face three times at Rathcor, Riverstown in Dundalk, Co Louth. Gardaí arrested Keenan after Temple reported the incident, and he was charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. At a near two hour contested hearing at Dundalk District Court, Keenan denied the charge and claimed self-defence. On 3 December 2025, Judge Nicola Andrews dismissed the case, saying she was not satisfied the injuries amounted to Section 3 assault causing harm and that she had no jurisdiction to reduce the charge.
