John Small, a 65-year-old man from Dundalk, was stumbling on a footpath at Mount Hamilton, Carrick Road, on 28 February 2022, holding a can of beer. He refused a direction to leave the area and told a garda to 'f*** off'. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour. At Dundalk District Court, Judge Eirinn McKiernan fined him €250 for the threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour. The court was told he had been convicted of murder in the UK in 1981.
