John Montaine, a 40-year-old man and partner of Clare independent TD Violet-Anne Wynne, pleaded guilty at Kilrush District Court on 16 March 2022 to illegal possession of cannabis at his home at Pella Rd, Kilrush on 11 February 2022, and to driving with no insurance at Decomede, Lissycasey, Co Clare on 8 February 2021. He was absent from court due to Covid-19, and the case was adjourned to 15 June 2022 for sentencing. On that date, Judge Mary Larkin fined him €100 for the cannabis possession and imposed a two-year driving ban for the no-insurance offence.
