Vintage car dealer John Malone, 79, was convicted of 26 offences including 13 counts of rape after a trial at the Central Criminal Court in April 2026. He was found to have sexually abused and raped a girl, now 28, who was 13 at the time, over the summers of 2010 and 2011 in Galway. Malone, of Killadullisk, Killimor, Co Galway, had groomed the teenager with promises of money while her family was struggling financially, and the abuse escalated from kissing to oral rape and rape. The judge set a headline sentence of 15 years, reduced to 12 years, after the victim read a statement saying 'prison is not enough for people like you'.
