    John Lawless, 39, was shot a number of times at close range on Marigold Road in Darndale, Dublin, in the early hours of 8 February 2019 while making his way to work at a construction site in Smithfield. He was treated at the scene and rushed to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7.10am from a gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation, which involved 311 tasks and 110 statements, remains open with no arrests or charges. At an inquest on 24 August 2022, a jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing by a person or persons unknown.
