latest first- Hatchet attack on horse at Kilkenny stables Criminal damage (hatchet attack on a horse) · Co. Kilkenny
A prize thoroughbred gelding was attacked with a hatchet at Greenshill stables in Kilkenny early on Monday morning, 8 March 1971. The horse, owned by John Hutchinson, was split to a point between its eyes, a blow the attending veterinary surgeon judged to be a definite attempt to kill rather than maim. The horse had considerable jumping success and international potential. The veterinary surgeon believed the horse would recover fully but would be scarred for life. No arrest or charge has been reported in connection with the attack.
