latest first- Tribunal hears evidence in unsolved murder of Baiba Saulite in Swords Murder · Co. Dublin
Baiba Saulite, a 28-year-old Latvian mother-of-two, was shot dead at her home in Swords, Co Dublin on 19 November 2006, and her murder remains unsolved with no one convicted. She had been subjected to domestic violence and was involved in a custody dispute with her former husband, referred to as Mr A. In 2008, retired Sgt William Hughes made a protected disclosure alleging systems failures in the Garda handling of the case. The Disclosures Tribunal in Dublin Castle began public hearings in February 2022 to examine whether Sgt Hughes was victimised after his allegations, which An Garda Síochána denies.
