  • Assault case dismissed at Donegal court after CCTV contradicts victim Assault; criminal damage (broken reading glasses) · Co. Donegal

On 22 July 2021 at SuperValu in Killybegs, Co Donegal, a 65-year-old man, John Milsop, was charged with assaulting John Drury, a supervisor at the store, and with causing criminal damage by breaking Drury's reading glasses. Milsop denied both charges, and his counter allegation led to Drury being asked to make a cautioned statement. Drury said Milsop tried to headbutt him and tried to put the hooked tip of a bottle into his eye, but the sources disagree on the CCTV, which the prosecution later agreed showed Drury did not push or touch Milsop. In early March 2023 at Donegal District Court, Judge Patricia Cronin ruled that the CCTV footage contradicted Drury's evidence and dismissed the case.
