On 18 September 2025, just after 6pm, a message was left on the phone of a Tusla social worker based in Carlow, and it was reported to gardaí the following day. John Dillon, of Carlow, was charged with sending grossly offensive or menacing messages on that date, and with making a threat to kill or cause serious harm and obstructing a peace officer at Staplestown Road post office on 20 October 2025. At Kilkenny District Court on 30 October 2025, gardaí objected to bail, and Dillon was denied bail and remanded in custody. In January 2026, Judge Geraldine Carthy sent the matter forward to Kilkenny Circuit Court for trial, with Dillon remanded in custody and granted legal aid, and a third summary matter was adjourned to a district court sitting in March.
